Types of Governments

     Governments can be classified into several types:

• Republic: a country that is ruled by a president and politicians elected by people.

•  Monarchy: a country that is ruled by a king or a queen

• Democracy: a system in which people vote to elect their representatives.

• Aristocracy:  a country ruled by nobles class ( called also aristocrats).

• Dictatorship:  a country that is ruled by a dictator.

• President: the head of a republic country.

• Minister: a member of a government who is in charge of a ministry.

• Member of Parliament: a representative of the people in the parliament.

• Mayor: head of a city , town or municipal corporation.

• Ambassador: a diplomatic official who lives in a foreign country as the senior representative of a country.

  Words Related to the Field of Politics

• Election: the selection by vote of a person or persons from among candidates for a position.

• Cabinet: a group of the most important ministers in the government.

• Vote: to choose sb for a position.

• Party: a political organization that you can vote for in elections .

• Policy: a plan of action of particular party or government.

• The opposition: members of parliament who do not belong the dominant  party.

• Referendum: a direct vote by the population on public issues.
