Quantifiers : Much , Many , a lot of , Lots of


 

             There are many peaple in the square.

             I don’t have much money with me.

             I have got a lot of presents in m birthday.

             I’m very busy , i cant fix your laptop now because it’ll take lots of time.

 

  • Much and many are used to express quantities and amounts.

 

  • Much is mainly used with uncountable nouns. Many is used with plural nouns especially in negative sentences.

 

I don’t think he has many copies left.

There is too much noise in the street.

 

  • Much and Many are mostly  used with negative and interrogative sentences. They can be also preceded by So and Too

 

  • A lot of and lots of are used with all types of sentences ,especially affirmative sentences.

 

  • There are other expressions to express quantities and amounts::

 

   Plenty of is used the same as a lot of and lots of.

   e.g. I have plenty of time left.

 

   With Uncountable: a good deal of , a great amount of.

    e.g. He spent a good deal of money.

           we can store a geat amount of information in that PC.

 

  With Countable: a large number of.

   e.g. a large number of animls died due to fire.
